Personally, I’m not an avid fan of the horror genre, but I found the first season of this show riveting--particularly because of the characters: troubled teen Violet Harmon and mysterious “boy-next-door” Tate Langdon (played by Taissa Farmiga and Evan Peters, respectively). On the surface, their story may seem like your typical teen angst-ridden romance, but there lays a darker and more tragic side to it; if you’ve seen the first season, then you’ll definitely know what I’m talking about. It’s not just the characters, but the actors who play them have such great chemistry together, and it’s really great to watch on TV.
Other than that, there are lots of things to look forward to this season. I mean, it’s all about witches. And no, they’re not witches like Prue, Piper, and Phoebe; or Sabrina Spellman; or even Hermione Granger. These witches are more macabre, and they are the direct descendants of the Salem witches who were burned at the stake in the 1600s. And since this is American Horror Story, you can expect that things will get a lot scarier than just concocting potions and waving wands. This new season deals with a lot of sensitive, and even taboo topics, including but not limited to slavery, rape, mutilation and more.
But don’t let that stop you from watching the show, because aside from the intriguing plot, this season has a fantastic line-up of actors. Joining Farmiga and Peters are an amazing cast including Sarah Paulson and Jessica Lange (who were in also in the first two seasons of the show), and Emma Roberts, all of whom are so fabulously dressed in all black. (Have you seen those hats? I want one!)
I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty excited about what lies in store in the coming episodes. If you want to know more about it, below is a collection of trailers for Coven that will surely creep you out and make you want to watch more.
