Most people would think that women who join beauty pageants are the ones with Barbie-like bodies covered in glitters and sparkly everything, with a lot of air in the "upstairs department". But if we look closer and pay more attention, those who join the real deal are really smart and not ignorant. (Shows us that there is hope!) There are women who join the pageant that are engineers, architects, accountants, and one even used to be in the army! Most of them are college graduates and have a Master's Degree.
Iris Mulej of Slovenia, a contestant during the 2002 Miss Universe, actually has an IQ of 156, making her smarter than a nuclear physicist despite her career as a model and educational background (she stopped school when she was 16). Now, she has her own modeling company and is a world class model.
One of the best answers that I have seen so far is the final question for India's Lara Dutta during the 2000 Miss Universe. I just think her answer is well thought out and right. It was a smart answer and she delivered it with confidence. (Check out her answer here!)
I personally think that Miss Universe continually show that not all women who join beauty pageants are bimbos and superficial. It shows the side of women that are sometimes overlooked, especially when they're pretty.
