One Direction’s “Midnight Memories” vs. Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar On Me”
Last November, One Direction released their third album Midnight Memories and one of the songs in the album, namely its title track “Midnight Memories” can’t helped but be compared to Def Leppard’s song “Pour Some Sugar On Me”. One Direction’s music style for the album has changed and gone from bubblegum pop to experimenting with a different genre this time with classic rock for this song. There was even supposed to be some lawsuit being filed against One Direction for allegedly copying the song. Especially in the chorus with the guitars and the belting os chords at the top of one’s lungs.
Maybe 'cause they're both pop songs I don't really know. But after listening carefully to these songs, I actually realized that they did in fact sound similar to each other. Actually most pop songs sound the same if you really just listen to them. Listen to this and tell me you don't hear a similarity between them.
Wicked’s “Popular” vs. Mika and Ariana Grande’s “Popular”
What people don’t know is that Mika and Ariana Grande’s song Popular is just a cover of a song from the musical Wicked. Being a fan of the musical, I didn’t realize this until a friend of mine told me and it actually took me awhile to realize it. Popular isn’t Wicked’s most popular song, but the song did get popular after Mika and Ariana Grande released their own version of it; it even got more than 45 million views on YouTube! I guess it's just because of Mika and Ariana making a catchier version of the song and them having more exposure than that of Wicked's version, that their version just became more popular.
