Reinvent is all for celebrating women of all sizes, appearances, nationalities, skin colors, and walks of life. We look up to all those women putting themselves out there and kicking ass alongside the men in their career paths and passions of choice. Throw in a few phenomenally talented women join forces, give them all angelic voices, musical instruments and/or fabulous costumes, and what do you get? ALL GIRL BANDS. That's right. Here are some of our favorite all girl groups from different places around the world.

 FLYING IPIS (1996 - Present)

Flying Ipis (in English, Flying Cockroach) is an all-girl indie/alternative pop rock band hailing from Manila, Philippines. It’s interesting and at the same time hilarious to note that the quartet got their band name from an actual cockroach-related mishap, resulting in all the girls freaking out during one of their first band rehearsals when a flying cockroach entered the room. The band consists of Deng Garcia on vocals, Ymi Sy on guitar, Iris Jumao-as on bass, and Gaki Azurin on drums. There aren’t many all-girl bands who have made it in the big time in the music scene in the Philippines, but these girls are truly making a name for themselves. They’ve been around since 1996 during their high school days, parted ways in college, but reunited and definitely got more serious in 2009. Their song “Sssikreto” off their self-released EP, Flying EP, (clever name, by the way) won them more exposure via the radio waves. In 2013, the band released their first full-length record entitled Give Ipis A Chance, featuring  the band’s highly energetic songs such as “Past is Past, Bitch” and “This Song is About You”. The girls’ we-don’t-give-a-shit, laidback attitude paired with a band name people certainly won’t forget is a sure sign that this band is going nowhere but up.

TEGAN AND SARA (1995 - Present)

Here we have another band of sisters - identical twins this time. Tegan Quin and Sara Quin form the Canadian indie pop/rock duo, who have been writing songs since they were 15 years old. In 2014, Tegan and Sara released their seventh studio album entitled Heartthrob, which won them several awards alongside their other award-winning and nominated singles such as “Closer”  and “Get Along”. This new album is pure evidence of the duo’s evolution in their music throughout the course of their 20-year career, which the two describe as a high-energy record that they were completely hands-on with. Also, you’ll be pleased to know that the two are openly gay and are all for marriage equality - they made an ice cream sandwich with their partner Coolhaus to promote the movement. Four for each of you, Tegan and Sara!

TLC (1990 - Present)

TLC is an R&B/hip hop all girl group from Atlanta, Georgia. The group consists of singers Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas. Let’s not forget past members, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes (may she rest in peace) and Crystal Jones. The once trio bagged many awards during the course of their career, including “Artist of the Year” in the 1996 Billboard Magazine Music Awards. This band of ladies is widely associated with their feminist anthems such as “No Scrubs,” and “Unpretty”, empowering the woman in different aspects. In an interview with Billboard Magazine in January 2015, TLC has confirmed that they will be writing their fifth and final record with Kickstarter. This time, with the help of the fans. We’re really excited to hear some new material from these girls.

BAD GIRLFRIEND

Bad Girlfriend is an NYC-based band composed of Brianna Lance, Christian Owens, Lyla Vander, and Savannah King. This band of beautiful ladies makes indie/rock/alternative guitar-heavy songs, and you gotta give it to them, their band name is kinda cute. They’re relatively new, and aren’t signed with a label yet, but they’ve got potential. In 2014, the band released their first EP entitled Touched featuring songs such  as “Act Right,” and “True Blue” that have a laidback feel and unique sound. In August 2014, the band released a music video for their single, “Colors”.

HAIM (2007 - Present)

If you’re looking for a girl group composed of sisters with equally beautiful hair, gorgeous legs, and of course, genuine talent, then you should listen to Haim. Three sisters, Este Haim (vocals and bass guitar), Danielle Haim (lead vocals and guitar), and Alana Haim (keyboard, percussion, guitar and vocals), accompanied by their drummer, Dash Hutton, form the California-based pop-rock band that’s stealing everyone’s hearts. The band’s sound is often compared to that of Fleetwood Mac’s, although the members themselves seem to disregard this and claim that they are influenced by more recent music. This kooky trio of sisters each have their own individual brands of wardrobe and personality, but come together through music to form one dynamic of pure talent that is Haim - your daily dose of songs to dance and sing along to. Personally, I’d describe their aesthetic as a band you’d listen to while you set stuff on fire as you wear your favourite sundress. But please do not try that at home. Seriously. Listen to their full-length album, Days Are Gone and fall in love.

DESTINY’S CHILD (1990 - 2006)

No, not just Beyoncé. I’m talking about Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams. (With past members LaTavia Roberson, LeToya Luckett and Farrah Franklin) form Destiny’s Child a.k.a. the incarnation of the word DIVA. This R&B/pop girl group hailing from Houston, Texas is famous for their many catchy hits such as “Say My Name,” “Bills, Bills, Bills,” “Survivor,” “Bootylicious” and more. Their energy on stage and almost unbelievable vocal prowess brought them to the top, making them one of the most recognizable girl groups to ever grace the music scene. Their lyrics are truly empowering, and their rhythm and sound are booty-shakingly fabulous.

THE SPICE GIRLS (1994-2012)

Moving on to different parts of the world, let’s talk about The Spice Girls. Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm, and Geri Halliwell fabulously came together to form this English all-girl pop group. Their debut hit song “Wannabe,” (which we all admittedly have sang along to at some point in our lives, with feelings) made way for the girls’ success and more successful hits such as “Stop,” and “Let Love Lead The Way”. They’ve definitely become a renowned symbol of girl power for fans all over the world. BUT WHAT’S THIS?! Rumors of the group getting back together for a 20th year anniversary reunion?! Looks like the British music scene might be losing one (shotout to Zayn Malik huhu) but gaining another. (Read more about this rumor of  them getting back together below)

IVY ROSE

Ivy Rose is an all-girl alternative rock band hailing from Washington, DC. This four-piece band is known for their fun and energetic style. They’ve been doing gigs in the Philippines and in several cities all around the East Coast. These talented young ladies are truly making a name for themselves. In 2012, the band auditioned for America’s Got Talent and got through to the next round. They’ve also released an EP entitled When You Feel The Rain, featuring songs like “Something More” , “Reasons Why” , and “Pilot”. Watch these girls’ live performance at Whipstock 2011 here.

Kudos to these ladies for their talent and passion for music and performing onstage. Keep kicking ass, girls! Never again feel down. Just listen to these bands, channel your inner Beyoncé, Este Haim or Posh Spice, and face the day as an empowered woman.
