Some musicians find success as a group, while some find success after leaving aforementioned group and launching a solo career. Here are 8 famous artists who have become more successful as a solo act after leaving a group.
From the Beatles to Wings to having a solo career, Sir Paul McCartney is truly one of the best and most successful musicians the world has ever seen.
The songstress, while best known as a solo act, used to be the lead singer for the funk band Rufus. Her powerful vocals garnered the attention of many thus deciding to go solo.
Among the members of the Jackson 5, Michael was the only one whom everybody knew had great talent. It came as no surprise that he went on to have best-selling albums and the title "King of Pop."
O'Shea Jackson (more commonly known as Ice Cube) first entered the business as a member of the hip-hop group C.I.A., which was in collaboration with Dr. Dre. This led to them forming a group with Eazy-E, MC Ren, and DJ Yella called N.W.A. Ice Cube was the first member who left N.W.A. to start his own solo rapping career, and a career in film and television. Though he still makes music to this day, he's more known for being in movies like Boys N Tha Hood, Friday, and 21 Jump Street.
She came into the spotlight for being the lead singer of the pop punk band Hey Monday, but after the band announced a hiatus in 2011, Cassadee Pope decided to embark a solo career by releasing an EP and touring around the United States. However, it wasn't until she joined and won season 3 of The Voice that she skyrocketed to fame.
Before she taught us all how to spell the word "bananas," Gwen Stefani was the lead singer of No Doubt, which she is now, once again a part of. (When she's not judging on The Voice, that is.)
Don't get me wrong, I love N*Sync as much as the next person, but I'm glad that saying "bye bye bye" to them kickstarted Justin's amazing career as a musician and an actor.
She's the Queen, what else is there to say?
According to the Urban Dictionary, a one-hit wonder is "a term for a band/group that has one breakthrough hit that people remember after usually years of making underground music." Simply put, a one-hit wonder is an artist solely known for one and one song only. Most of these artists are infamous for their insanely catchy tunes while some are known for satirical reasons but really, everyone knows them just because everyone knows them. Although these songs were on the Billboard Hot 100 for only a short amount of time, they will be known (and badly sung) forever. In need of a great throwback playlist? Well we've got you covered with the 25 best one-hit wonders!
1. The Knack: "My Sharona"
Kai is an independent Filipino singer/songwriter who you should definitely get hooked on listening to. Her simple yet sincere songs will leave you LSS-ed for days. Not to mention, she's pretty skilled with the ukelele.

Yesterday, I went to Bazooka Rocks III with our editor-in-chief, Marian. It was our first festival in two years and we didn't know what to expect. We both attended the first one back in 2012 and this year was way different from two years ago. This year was a whole new experience, and we could really tell that Bazooka gets better and better every year; especially with the facilities available. The overall production was beyond what we imagined and just knowing that Bazooka Rocks is an annual event, makes us very excited for the next one.
I know a lot of kids from the younger generation are starting to go to concerts and shows and sometimes it can get pretty crazy; so make sure you're always safe. For all those first-timers, read up on some basic concert etiquette and guidelines which are usually provided by the producers. If ever you're going to attend a show in the near future, here is a video on concert essentials you might want to bring with you:
Known for their non-choreographed performances and Harry Styles (let's be honest), the British-Irish boy band has gone a very long way from their fetus X-Factor days back in 2010. Gone are the Jack Wills hoodies, the braces, the suspenders, ink-free bodies, and the bubblegum-pop sound. After four successful albums, Niall (my future baby daddy ehem ehem), Louis, Harry, Zayn, and Liam have grown to become one of the fittest, most envied and coveted men in the music industry. But people often wonder why this is so, and why are they so popular among teens? Yes, they have the abs, perfect quiffs, and faces to die for, but there's definitely more to them than that.
Even before they became this gorgeous, hot, and have possessed the voices of angels, people who watched X-Factor already liked them. This may be because they're really funny lads who are just complete dorks. This made them entertaining and really cute. Because of the X-Factor video diaries, the show showed the world just how silly and really nice these boys are. And even when they have already made it big, they didn't stop their funny antics and cuteness. In interviews, meet and greets, fan signings, and stolen videos, you could really see that they're still their cheeky and nice selves. Along with their realness, they're also really nice people. They aren't douchebags and they don't get into trouble with other people. They don't start fights and they even treat their fans very kindly.
They have such beautiful voices *cries*.
Contrary to popular belief (meaning contrary to what non-directioners believe), these five boys can actually sing. Although they did not win the X-Factor and although each of them didn't originally pass bootcamp, their live performances prove that they can produce nice vocals. Zayn and Harry especially, have time and time again melted the hearts of fans due to their perfect high notes in Moments, Gotta Be You, You and I, Story of My Life, Right Now, Something Great, and A LOT more (I mean have you seen the Vines??). Their harmony can also bring out eargasms as they are just per-fect. The only sad thing is these don't get very much appreciated because people are quick to judge them.
They don't conform to the "boy band stereotype".
Yes, this has been said before, but I cannot emphasize this enough. It's alright for people that they don't dance because they sing instead. They also don't always bring out pop in their albums. In their most recent album, Midnight Memories, the boys have produced more rock sounding tracks in the record. Their Take Me Home album shows their transition from pop to pop-rock. To go with their rockier genre, the boys look bad ass. Since 2012, Harry, Louis, Zayn and Liam have been adorning their bodies with different tattoos. This just goes to show that they're not the clean-cut boy band that everyone expects them to be.
Of course the physical appearance is a great factor as to why they're liked by so many girls. With a face like that, even Narcissus would obsess over them. One thing about One Direction is that they all look good. And they all look different too, which means more choices, yay! They could wear whatever type of clothing or have any type of hair, and they would still look beautiful (huhuhuhu).
Sometimes, I feel like even if One Direction do have a really really big fan base, it's still hard for everyone to like them. I guess having the title of a "boy band" makes them not treated fairly. They aren't taken more seriously when it comes to their music because people always assume that boy bands are only a marketing tool. They aren't just a pretty face, they are artists that also have talent and can produce good music. Someone who says they don't have nice songs are people who obviously haven't really listened to their music. There are a lot of songs by them that need more attention because they simply are just wonderful. I guess the haters can hate, but there's no denying what these boys can offer.
