Michael Jackson is, without a single doubt, one of the greatest musicians in the history of ever. From his signature moves to his legendary songs, MJ has left a huge mark in the music industry and has definitely inspired so many other artists, dancers, and even fashion designers now and then. Without him, artists like Justin Timberlake and Beyonce wouldn’t have done what they have done. As Madonna said, “He was the King who inspired us all… I don’t know what artist wasn’t inspired by him. Everybody grew up in awe of him”.
He also changed the way music videos were presented and the way concerts were viewed because he took performing to a whole new level of creativity and showmanship. His concerts never had a dull moment as he had video screens, special effects, and so much dancing which weren't popular back in the day. His songs didn’t just have great beats, but also had great messages. They didn’t need any slang or vulgar words to entice the listeners, all he had to do was put his passion and creative mind into his songs and viola! He created some of the best songs ever. MJ is truly a one of a kind talent and it’s really amazing that even after so many years and even after his death, his music and influence still lives on and is still carried by many. And what's even great about this legend is that he uses his fame to give back. MJ has donated to countless numbers of charities and has started the 'Heal The World Foundation' in 1992 to help aid children and the environment. He has donated over 300 million dollars to various charities and organizations around the world. He held the Guinness World Record for the most amount of money donated by any celebrity. If that doesn't make you love him even more, then I don't know what else would. (Source )
The reason why he's the King, is because he is the first American rock & roll artist. He started out in the 50's, way before Queen, the Beatles, and Jimi Hendrix. Honestly, the first I've heard of this guy was when I was watching Lilo & Stitch.
There's a certain sex appeal that this guy projects through his image and music. The charm along the lines of James Dean. Although, many people used to consider his music vulgar and inappropriate for the youth, since rock & roll had close ties to African Americans and it racism was everywhere, this type of rebelliousness improved his image. Well, our generation would definitely not consider him vulgar comparing his music to ours.
To add to his legacy, the guy was a triple threat: singer, actor, and dancer. Grammys, records broken, hit singles, gold records, platinum records, multiplatinum records, he had it all. The amazing thing about this man is that he started a long list of legends to follow. He defined rock & roll with his music, image, and career. Elvis Presley is still a household name after 40's years since his death. This man isn't just the king of rock, he's a freaking legend. (Source )
I guess we're in that century where people know her songs but they don't know that she sang it. Then again, her success, although still on-going, reached its peak during the late 60's. Aretha Franklin everybody, queen of soul. I Say a Little Prayer? R-E-S-P-E-C-T? Know her now?
She was one of the first soul artists there was in history, by merging gospel and R&B. She gives definition to the word soul music. You could feel her heartbreak, her love, and whatever emotion she would portray in her music pierce your heart like an arrow. In fact, her music makes you feel what she feels. Five seconds in a song, you would be mouthing the chorus and swaying to the piano.
The list of her hits during her time is too long to handle. The numerous awards and achievements this woman has received could take all day to talk about. She is a first in history, being recognized as Lady Soul throughout America and Europe, thus representing the African American community. Her voice is one of a kind. Little of our generation knows, much less listens to her. That is why I suggest, whenever you're feeling down in the dumps because some stupid boy/girl just lied to your face, crank up Don't Play That Song. Don't forget the box of tissues. (Source )
