I won’t go into a Mean Girl’s reference about him. Many have considered the remake of the film adaptation the rekindling of the 1920’s, where flapper dresses and jazz was the crop tops and dubstep back then. The trailer itself sent chills down people’s spines from the fantastic mash-up of jazz and rap, by King Jay-Z himself and serf Kanye, and cinematography of the dazzling lights of Jay Gatsby’s house parties.
However, it seemed like another Hollywood attempt to please the crowd, but in all honesty it just felt like an hour and 20 minutes of my life just passed by. I’m not even allowed to say spoilers anymore since the book, and several movie adaptations, has been released before the 2013 film. The bitter ending of Jay Gatsby’s death in his unused pool, was a big “meh”. The movie didn’t capture the enormity of what the book was about, how the glitter and gold are all going to rust to the color of coppery red eventually. It had hype, only before when the movie came out.
And yet, the results aren’t a total bitter ending. It’s still pretty sweet to have 20’s themed parties now. Thanks, Leo DiCaprio for reminding people that the 20’s existed.
