From ‘Baby Jonas’ to ‘Forget the Purity Ring’, Nicholas Jerry Jonas is our Man Crush Monday. The Italian-German-English-Irish-Scottish-Cherokee and French-Canadian descent is a multi-threat as he is a singer-songwriter, musician, actor and multi-instrumentalist.
With a bangin’ bod.
As our theme for this month is ‘ego’, I felt that Nick Jonas was able to fill the ‘ego role’ perfectly. But how so? He grew up with a very conservative family, had a purity ring, held high family values and was very religious. That was Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers.
This curly haired muffin was the death of many teenage girls from 2005-2009 when he was in the Jonas Brothers. He had secured the squeaky clean image and a prime example of this was using songs from a well-known (now broken up for at least 10 years) British boy band called Busted where some of the more explicit lyrics were changed (of course with the approval of the band mates). A song that many would refer to as ‘That’s What I Go To School For’ as it was originally about a romance with a teacher but was changed to a romance with a student who was older than him.
However, the image was shattered briefly when pictures of Miley Cyrus circulated around the internet. They weren’t entirely explicit but explicit enough for parents to call Miley Cyrus out on it as it was inappropriate for her age. Many fans believed that the pictures were taken at the time she was dating Nick Jonas and so questioned his squeaky clean image.
As time went on, many people forgot about this little scandal and focused their eyes towards Joe Jonas who was 'breaking the mold'. When he started dating Ashley Greene, his purity ring came off along with rumors circulating his ex-girlfriend Demi Lovato. Nick Jonas on the other hand had kept to his squeaky clean image with rumors being little to none.
With the hype of their comeback tour and their fifth album called V, there were pretty high expectations until the band broke up late last year. However, this seemed to be the turning point in Nick Jonas’ ego.
The break up of the band was mainly due to the fact that there was disagreement with the direction the band was going. Kevin Jonas was happily married while Nick and Joe were the ones enjoying the non-marriage life: they could afford to be risqué. Nick Jonas seemed to take advantage of the break up.
Over the course of the next year, Nick worked out a lot more and focused on his solo act. Needless to say, it wasn’t a let down.
Nick has gone from the sweet, quiet, mysterious Jonas to the glorified, rambunctious, sexy young man who knows that he has the goods. He knows that he has what it takes and he isn’t afraid to let it all loose.
And just to show you guys the dramatic change, here’s a before and after picture.
