Here are three reasons why I love Queen Latifah:
Queen Latifah is definitely on my list of favorite actresses. From comedies to dramas and even to animated movies, she’s proven to be very versatile and dynamic. Not to mention, she’s also a great singer. I especially love her role as Motormouth Maybelle in Hairspray (2007) where she got to belt out and show just how lovely her voice is. On top of that, Queen Latifah has recorded several albums in the past few years. She released her very first album in 1989 when she was just nineteen and was part of a hip-hop group called “Native Tongues”.
Not only does she act and sing, she also hosts her own daytime television show, The Queen Latifah Show on CBS where she chats with other celebrities like Matthew McConaughey, John Legend, and Kermit the Frog.
If you aren’t aware, Queen Latifah is also a Cover Girl! She collaborated with the brand and developed stunning makeup for darker skin. The collection features tons of lipsticks, mascaras, powders, and everything under the sun!
Queen also has a clothing line with HSN called Queen Collection which are clothes particularly for plus size women. Danielle Young of hellobeautiful.com wrote in an article, “Finding clothes that are trendy and comfortable is typically a challenge for larger women. Latifah has made it easier for women of a particular size to feel confident and beautiful in their clothes without looking like they’re swimming in a sea of fabric.”. And yes indeed, her clothing line is absolutely gorgeous!
This is one of the most important reasons why I adore Queen Latifah. Her stand on gender equality and women empowerment should be heard by many.
Queen Latifah also stresses the importance of self-confidence in women. "I am someone with or without this man. I am someone with or without this job, with or without these tight jeans. I am a strong woman. I can survive,” she says. And she is clearly right that women should believe in themselves regardless of how they look like or who they love. In an interview with host Nina Boski she said, “I empower myself by taking control of my life...by deciding to be who I want to be. I’m gonna be happy. I’m gonna live life to the fullest. I’m gonna make it through this. When I choose to make decisions about my life and my thoughts, that’s when I feel empowered. Inner beauty definitely starts with self-love. The decisions you make in life are based on you loving yourself”.
Whether you are slim or curvy, black or white, rich or poor, you deserve to be treated right.
