I asked some people about the food they consider as their ultimate comfort food and after combining all of their answers, there were 5 things that repeatedly showed up. Here they are:
Any kind of cakes and cupcakes basically but one flavor that stood out was the Red Velvet. This velvety smooth blood red cake actually got invented during the Great Depression because of a good marketing scheme and everyone just got hooked; and after so many years, this has become one of the top things people look for when they are feeling down.
Actually, any fried potato product. These oily, calorie filled snacks are a sure winner with today's youth. No matter how much we know about the bad effects of fried goods and no matter how many times we get reminded about the excessive amount oil and fat, we never fail to to say that yes, we would like to have some fries with that.
The toppings weren't really specified but I'm pretty sure that in this case, everything goes. As long as it's on top of a baked piece of bread with all that gooey goodness and all the other toppings, people will eat it. S'mores pizza? Why not? Breakfast pizza complete with the sunny side up eggs? Hell yeah! The possibilities are endless!
With the amount of chocolate being consumed every year, the chocolate industry is definitely one of the busiest industries in the world today (no wonder there are now news about the possible chocolate shortage in the near future). Whether it may be purely cacao or milk based, white or dark, chocolates will always be one of the most loved comfort food in this world.
I'm not sure why I still got surprised when the flavorful and ice cold dessert came out as the most loved comfort food. Feeling sad? Go get that tub of cookie dough ice cream and put on a happy movie. Just learned that you passed the dreaded final? Celebrate with a big banana boat. Ice creams come in all shapes and sizes, you can never run out of options!
Thank you to everyone who participated in the survey!
