ENERGY FOODS

No one realizes how much stress a teenager goes through these days. We can't always rely on coffee or red bull to give us an energy boost if we intend to live longer or not pass out because of palpitations. So why not try the healthy alternatives instead?

BROCCOLI

Why eat it: It makes a great snack since it's super low in calories (only 27 for half a cup) while being jammed pack with nutrients like vitamin A and C, calcium, magnesium, and folic acid.. It can even help you fight depression! (x)

How to eat: Not swimming in cheese sauce or oil because that would cancel all of its benefits. A great way to make them into quick snacks is by sticking them in the oven till they get crispy. Go light on the salt

BANANAS

Why eat it: Bananas are rich in tyrosine, which help you become more alert, focused, motivated, and boost your memory. (x)

How to eat: The obviously best way to eat it is raw so that all those nutrients go into your body without anything in excess. If you're drinking a protein shake, it would be a good idea to throw in half a banana into the blender too.

BERRIES

Why eat it: Berries aren't called a super food for nothing. Blueberries carry a good dose of manganese, which is an energy-filled mineral. They also help improve motor skills and fight diseases. Strawberries contains iron, which helps produce red blood cells, and a lot of B-complex vitamins that help break down carbs, proteins, and fats for your body to use. (x|x)

How to eat: The best way would obviously be raw. Add them to your salads, yogurt, oatmeal, or a smoothie.

CHICKPEAS

Why eat it: It contains manganese which is an essential in energy production. All you need is just one cup of chickpeas to give you that extra boost! (x)

How to eat: You can roast them in minimal olive oil and spices to substitute all that junk food you'd eat when you're on the go. But my favorite way to eat them is by making them into hummus.

ALMONDS

Why eat it: We're easily scared when a food is relatively high in calories. Even though almonds are so, they are still low in fat and high in fiber. They're also antioxidants so they help oxygen-based energy production for the heart and other muscles. (x)

How to eat: You can roast them and eat them as a snack or you can just use them as a topping for your yogurt or salads. You can also make almond butter and use it as a substitute for regular high in fat butter.
