GMOs are cheaper.
There’s a reason why companies are generally more keen on developing GMOs. It gives them greater profit because they are easier and cheaper to produce. More importantly because of the bigger volume and cheaper cost of production, the selling price of the products are significantly reduced. This makes GMOs more attainable and appealing to the lower economic class and the majority of people in general. Growing and maintaining animals and plants that are produced organically cost a lot more; thus making their selling price expensive as well. Organics are made for health and safety reasons but in the end only the people in the higher up economic class buy organics because they have the means to afford it.
Organic products are very limited in both variety and volume. With GMOs, there is never a shortage in supply. And here's the interesting part about GMOs, they are already out there and they are leading in the market.
In a recent survey that has been done, it stated that only 26% of the people they interviewed believe that they have eaten GMO foods. Most conventional food nowadays have been genetically altered and companies producing GMOs are not in any strict obligation to declare this fact. People consume the stuff left and right and they are not even aware about this type of product.
GMOs may be a health hazard.
Though this has not been thoroughly proven, it has been stated that GMOs may cause a series of serious sicknesses such as cancer. This should make the products less appealing and risky to consume. But so far there have been no mass cases of serious illnesses brought by GMOs so I guess we'll just have to wait until something serious happens that can be proven to be caused by GMOs. So, if you want to stay on the safe side, stick with Organics.
GMOs are questioned for animal abuse.
Imagine all the poor animals that are constantly being experimented on for a bigger production to appease our needs. We live in a world where we breed animals for our own benefit and consumption. It may be true that we are not of the same species but then again, they are living creatures too.
Organics are the safer choice.
With GMOs posing a health risk, naturally, Organics are the safer choice. They pose no threat of causing cancer or any other serious sicknesses which is why it is more reassuring to buy these products.
Organics are sure to be natural.
The means of making organics is very basic. It's all very elementary and you are sure to get the natural benefits of the fruits, meat, cloth or any other natural resource. Traditional methods are used to produce organic products without the use of any chemicals or gene alteration.
Organics have no proven significant benefits.
Before organic buffs go on hell rage with me, all I'm trying to say is that organics' benefits all come from the product itself. All you get is the assurance that you are getting the natural benefits of the products itself.
GMOs are more appealing to the senses. They are manufactured to look prettier, larger, and more appealing to our taste. So, if you want to go for comfort with clothes or food then I suggest GMOs since they are made for exactly that.
Quite a number of people find GMOs abominations for they go against what their respective gods have created and given to them. Some say we are messing with the balance of nature by abusing the gifts that this earth has given us. They say it is a big sign of disrespect and I think this is a major issue facing GMOs. With significant gene changes, we might just be affecting a lot more people than we mean to, which makes GMOs a heated topic for debate.
After analyzing the facts, I believe that GMOs are all about perception. Consuming such items depend on a lot of factors and not just the usually promoted health hazards. It'll depend on ethnicity, religion, race, family background, personal preferences and many other things. And for Organics advocates, with the shortage in supply of Organics and the lack of transparency of manufacturers producing GMOs, it is a tough battle to go 100% Organics in the modern world. At the end of the day, I personally just believe in moderation and trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle filled with regular exercise and balanced diet. And yes, with occasional indulgences here and there! It really depends on what you believe in, what you choose and how you live with this choice.
