Many people will agree that the story was very controversial as Anastasia Steele was pretty much controlled by Christian Grey. Due to this, there was much backlash from the feminist community as it wasn’t a step forward for women (however, there are be couples like these two in the world and the story was based off of Twilight, so there are similarities on how the characters treat each other). There was also the fact that many did not believe Fifty Shades of Grey represented BDSM correctly. On top of these two, many will say that the story was a cliché, it didn’t give anything back to the community, that it promoted sex among teenagers, that it promoted toxic and controlling relationships and that a woman needs a man in her life.
I agree with all of this.
However, from watching the growth of Fifty Shade of Grey, there have been some positive things that have come out.
Although the negatives do outshine the series itself, the book has become a guilty pleasure for teenagers and adults alike (mostly 45 year old women but you catch my drift). With the film coming out in two weeks, let’s just say that with all negativity surrounding the books, people are going to watch it.
And you probably will too.
