Here are 5 leading ladies in books that I have read who I consider ‘badass’ or a role model.
1. Cassie Sullivan - The 5th Wave Trilogy
When her brother is taken away to a camp, and she has a sneaking suspicion that it has something to do with the aliens, she sets off to find her brother. This is happens after *spoiler* she watches her father and many others die in front of her eyes. With no leads other than the school buses, Cassie Sullivan defines badass when she ventures out into the world where she faces her enemy and stands her ground.
She slowly becomes more of an independent woman with a teddy in one hand and a gun in the other.
2. Mimi Force - Blue Bloods Series
Let’s start out with the fact that she was Azrael, the Angel of Death who betrayed Lucifer personally and on the battlefield. If you don’t think that’s already badass, then I worry about you. Anyway, we skip ahead to modern times and Mimi is a force to be reckoned with. She took her father’s place in the ‘Conclave’ and then went on missions, even going to the underworld to find her true love. She even uncovers the dark secrets that the Conclave are hiding.
Basically, Mimi Force is the big bad bitch who we all want to be.
3. Diana Holland - The Luxe Series
When we are introduced to Diana Holland, we are straight up introduced to a rebelling daughter who doesn’t do things by the book. She drinks, she smokes, she behaves rambunctiously and so doesn’t really give a damn in the world. She snaps at one of the leading men in the story, saying that the only good thing about him was his greenhouse. This was all set during 1899. However, that isn’t all there is to this character.
For those who haven’t read the series, this part contains spoilers. To further prove that she is a badass, when she finds out that the love of her life is going to the army, she cuts off her hair and joins the army as well so she could find him. By the end of the series, Diana doesn’t get married to the love of her life but instead gets on a boat to travel and see the world. Who wouldn't envy Diana Holland's life?
4. Allyson Healey/Lulu - Just One Day
So, where does Allyson Healy become a badass? It starts out when she ditches her group with her friend to see a travelling acting group who was performing a Shakespearean play and becomes attracted to one particular actor. She later meets the actor again, who is called Willem, and then, on impulse, she takes the next train out with Willem to France and spends the entire day there.
Allyson Healy is the image who we think of when we think of that perfect scenario even though shit goes down after this da
5. Hermione Granger-Harry Potter Series
Hermione Granger starts out being a major know-it-all as she demonstrates her knowledge in magic within being introduced to her. Being a muggle-born and knowing that much in magic already, I don’t know about you, but I think that’s pretty badass. As time goes on, we get to see Hermione Granger take action and pick up her game, going into battle and helping Ron and Harry when they need it. Which is pretty much all the time.
And she also gets a pretty hunky Quidditch player to dance with during the Yule Ball so, y’know, incredibly badass.
