TIPS TO ACHIEVE BEAUTIFUL SKIN

5/21/2015

As the old saying goes, "Beauty comes from within." True enough, your skin reflects whatever you eat and don't eat. No matter how expensive your skin care products are, your skin will mirror the junk in your body, thus resulting to oily skin full of blemishes. With the proper diet, you will be healthy inside and out. When you eat good, you feel and look good. But of course, apart from a good diet, a good skin regimen is also necessary for a clean and healthy-looking skin. Here are a couple of tips to achieve that glowing and fresh skin:

1. Never underestimate the power of sunscreen.

Two words. SKIN. CANCER. Sunscreen has been proven to decrease the risk of skin cancer and if that isn't enough proof that you should start slathering your skin with sunscreen whenever you head out, then I don't know what is. Protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun because later on, you'll see dark spots and skin discoloration will be evident. Sunscreen also slows down the development of wrinkles. Before you leave the house in the morning, apply sunscreen. If you're out until the afternoon, reapply every two hours or so.

2. Remove all traces of makeup at the end of the day.

When you fail to remove your makeup before you sleep, your pores get clogged and the dirt builds up. Your skin will dry out and age two days faster than the usual. If you don't clean out the mascara from your lashes, they could clump up and you'd end up with brittle lashes that have grouped together . Since your skin is covered up with layers of makeup, it'll be hard for oxygen to reach the skin and for the skin to shed. The dirt left in the pores will cause it to enlarge and with this, skin elasticity will decrease. Long story short, remove the makeup or suffer.

3. Eat food high in antioxidants

Raspberries are high in antioxidants that can prevent wrinkles when applied to the skin. Basically berries in general are high in antioxidants. It slows down the aging process by reducing the oxidative damage to the cells. The beauty of the berries are that you can enjoy them in so many ways. Add them to your oats, cereals, yogurt, or just munch on them while you're watching a movie.

4. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser.

This goes especially for those of you with oily skin. When your skin is oily, dirt sticks to your face more and clogs the pores. Don't use hot water because that could cause redness and irritation. It could dry out the skin and make it susceptible to acne and other skin issues. When exfoliating, don't scrub too hard. Better yet, create your own exfoliant using different fruits such as pineapple chunks or the inside of a mango.

5. Change your pillow cases every three to five days.

It sounds a bit tedious, but your skin will thank you. Your pillow cases can accumulate dust and dirt even when you're around, so just imagine all that being pressed onto your face for 5-8 hours every night. When your environment is clean, you sleep better and a well-rested you, results to a happier you.

Stressed from school, work, or just life in general? If you are, then it's probably time for you to treat yourself -- to a spa day! Don't worry if you don't have enough cash to spend to go to a fancy spa; you can have your very own DIY spa day at home. Just follow these steps so you can have the perfect, relaxing, treat-yo-self at-home spa day!

1. Put on some relaxing music.

Make a playlist of soothing music from your library, or find one on Spotify or 8tracks! Put 'em on speaker to set the mood. (But aside from that step, put away all your electronics! Remove yourself from any technological distractions to really get yourself relaxed.)

2. Set up the perfect ambience.

It's nice to have your home spa in a dimly lit room (preferably your bathroom) with a few scented candles here and there to make it feel like you're in an actual spa. Even better if you have a diffuser and some essential oils for aromatherapy!

3. Hydrate.

Prepare some lemon water, or your favorite tea, to keep yourself hydrated throughout the day.

4. Draw a warm bath.

With a bath robe and your fluffiest towel ready, draw a warm bath in the tub. Fill the water with some petals, or better yet, bath salts!
